Context

The MEMORIAL ACTe is a Caribbean Centre of Expression and Memory of Slavery & the Slave Trade. It seeks to bring together a range of viewpoints and disciplines, drawing not only upon our history, the heart of the project, but also upon ethnology, social anthropology and history of the Arts.

It is a sizable bulding of more than 7 800m² of covered surface. It is welcoming more than 300 000 visitors a year. Total cost of the project was in the range of 83 millions EUR, including 48 millions EUR for the building.

Challenge

The project faced many important challenges: a location on the sea side of Pointe-à-pitre particularly exposed to corrosion and the obligation to meet the requirements of Guadeloupe drastic anti-sismic rules for new buildings.

On top of those technical constraints, the project had to meet the architectural design.

Etanco solution

The work performed by ETANCO on this building has concerned the entire facade frame as well as the fastening solutions.

We have used the RIVCOLOR rivets in Aluminum and stainless steel A2 to ensure anti-corrosion protection and to comply with the anti-sismic regulation.
